Native script is set as the hero, not as a caption under the English. Japanese and Chinese get proper CJK faces, weights and line-height — not a Latin font stretched over them.
Browse, play and download without an account. Signing in with Google appears once, inline, only when you star a phrase you'd like on your other devices.

What Pocket Parrot is for
A free travel phrasebook for the web. A small set of genuinely useful phrases per country — food, transport, restaurants, pharmacy, emergencies, greetings — each with the native script, a phonetic guide, and spoken audio in real neural voices. Anything you've opened keeps working with no connection at all, so it holds up in a basement restaurant or on a rural bus.
The entire phrasebook — every country, every phrase, all the audio and the offline downloads — works with no account and no sign-up. Nothing about you is stored on our servers.
Optional, and it exists for one reason: so the phrases you star and the sets you build follow you onto your other devices.
Phrases come from established travel phrasebook sources and are checked before publishing. Native speakers are working through them country by country, gradually, as we add more languages — so until a phrase has been reviewed, treat it as a careful translation rather than a verified one. We plan to mark reviewed phrases in the app. If something reads oddly, tell us at hello@pocketparrot.app.
